Every Pokémon hides three numbers that decide how strong it can ever be. IVs don't change with power-ups — so the moment you catch something, its potential is already set. The trick is reading them from CP and HP.
What IVs actually are
Attack, Defense and Stamina IVs run from 0 to 15 each. A 100% Pokémon has 45/45; a wild catch averages about 8 per stat. The difference between a 90% and a 100% is small, but for a Pokémon you'll max out, every point matters.
Recovering the hidden numbers
CP and HP are deterministic outputs of the IVs and level via the CPM formula. Working backward — trying every IV spread until the numbers match — recovers the possibilities. It's the same math the fan-tool ecosystem uses.
Narrowing to certainty
The level is the key unknown. Stardust cost pins the level, appraisal pins the IV band, and combining them turns a wide range into a near-certain answer. For PvP, where CP caps matter, the 'low Attack' meta adds one more twist.

Enter its CP, HP and species. The calculator matches every IV combination against the real CP/HP formula and shows the possible spreads, with a level estimate.
15 Attack, 15 Defense and 15 Stamina — a total of 45/45, shown in-game as a 4★ appraisal. It's the 'hundo'.
Because different IV spreads can produce the same CP and HP. Entering the Pokémon's level (from stardust cost) narrows the matches, and appraisal filters the band further.
