What this means

Wallpaper quantity starts with wall area — the room's perimeter times its height — minus a typical area for each door and window. Because wallpaper is sold by the roll and pattern matching wastes material, we add a waste allowance and round up to whole rolls. A standard roll covers about 5 m² (or 28 ft²), which is less than the raw roll area once trims at top, bottom and seams are counted.

• •Buy all rolls from the same batch — dye lots differ and a mismatch is very visible.
• •Add extra for patterned papers, which can waste 20–30% matching the repeat.
• •Order a roll or two extra and keep them sealed; returns are easier than re-ordering mid-project.
