How the estimate works
Every pack states the area it covers. Dividing your floor area by that number gives the bare requirement; adding waste accounts for the offcuts from trimming planks at the walls and staggering the end joints for a natural look. The result is rounded up because you buy whole packs.
Getting the measurements right
Measure length and width at the widest points and include any doorways, bays or alcoves you'll floor. For L-shaped rooms, split the space into rectangles, calculate each, and add them together before applying waste.
Frequently asked questions
Divide your room's area by the coverage printed on each pack, then add about 8% for waste and round up to whole packs. This calculator does that automatically.
Around 8% for a simple rectangular room, and 10–15% if you're laying diagonally or the room has lots of angles, alcoves or doorways.
Flooring is only sold in complete packs, so any partial requirement means buying the next full pack. The leftovers double as spares for future repairs.
